About the ECG

The Education Collective Grenada is a purpose-driven initiative launching in September 2022. It holds no formal legal, or business licenses in Grenada or elsewhere.

"Thus the need for the ECG arises out of a willingness to contribute meaningfully towards the growth in the Grenadian education sector."

What is the ECG

A network of friends of Grenada and Grenadian Scholars, and professionals committed to supporting the small-island State of Grenada, specifically in the area of education, youth and organisational management.

"Thus the need for the ECG arises out of a willingness to contribute meaningfully towards the growth in the Grenadian education sector."

The Goals of the ECG

The collective intends to serve as a directory that can be accessed by Grenadians (on the island and in the diaspora) doing post-graduate research, working with youth, and/or working in organisational management. The collective can provide support by:

  1. Presenting scholarly work to Grenadians K-12 & higher-Ed organisations
  2. Acting as a resource for individuals and organisations working to improve policy, pedagogy, and processes in education
  3. Leveraging expertise to support research and organisational growth in the education sector
  4. Collaborating with members to develop, and/or maintain sustainable initiatives that benefit education in Grenada

Why the ECG?

Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, a 48 year-old tri-island state, is well known for its beauty and warm hospitality. People habitually greet each other. With these small acts, there is an unspoken understanding that we are perpetually in community.

"Thus the need for the ECG arises out of a willingness to contribute meaningfully towards the growth in the Grenadian education sector."

As a small-island developing state, however, Grenada faces challenges, particularly within the education sector with notable ramifications for youth. Most recent statistical data suggests concerns with the retention, school leaving rates at both the primary and secondary levels. Longitudinally, trends suggest enrollment in secondary school is on the decline.

At the tertiary level, longitudinal trends at the T.A. Marryshow Community College suggest decline in enrollment particularly in the School of Arts and Sciences, and Professional Studies, as well as the School of Continuing Education. Beyond the concerns of attrition and enrollment in the sector, other challenges with access to resources and expertise linger.

These concerns are further compounded by the number of trained teachers in the public school system, and high teacher attrition rates. Trained teachers make up the majority of the teaching population, whereas graduate teachers represent a minority of the teaching population.

As an educational resource stop, ECG volunteers can partner with stakeholders and individuals in the sector. The nature of the partnership is guided by the framework outlined in the section scope of member engagement. Members can make commitment decisions as their schedule and interests allow.
